Townhall Times: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by the Modi government, has wreaked havoc on the country’s economy, employment, small businesses, education, healthcare services, women’s safety, and national security in a way that even an enemy nation would hesitate to. The Modi government has broken the backbone of every citizen in this country.
India’s wealth is being sold off piece by piece to a select few by Modi, and it seems unlikely that he has the country’s welfare at heart. Instead, public attention is diverted with daily issues like temple disputes or searching for temples beneath mosques. Caste discrimination and oppression are increasing, incidents of sexual violence against women are on the rise, and in Gujarat alone, over 40,000 women have gone missing in the last four years. Courts and government institutions are functioning like animals tied to a leash.
Over 200,000 government schools have been shut down, more than 30 million youth are unemployed, and over 30% of urban households have their homes and jewelry mortgaged. Every month, more than 300 people commit suicide due to debt. Meanwhile, Modi himself provides free rations to 800 million people, while around 300 million live below the poverty line, though statistical manipulation has been used to show them as above it.

India faces a shortage of over 1.5 million doctors, and hospitals lack essential equipment and staff. Employment opportunities are non-existent. Instead of building hospitals and hiring doctors, Modi introduces schemes like Ayushman Bharat, catering to select groups while neglecting others. In the past decade, government hospitals have worsened significantly.
Now let’s discuss the AAP government in Delhi, which boasts of creating a world-class education system. Post-lockdown, 35% of underprivileged children in Delhi have dropped out of school. Online classes have jeopardized students’ futures, and the much-touted “smart classes” are few and far between. Of the 22,000 classrooms claimed to have been built, many were constructed by eliminating playgrounds. Delhi schools face a shortage of over 30,000 teachers, and 80% of schools lack principals. The existing teachers are mostly on contracts.
If poor children in Delhi aspire to higher education, the exorbitant fees of central and Delhi universities make it unattainable. This aligns with a combined BJP and AAP policy to prevent children from marginalized communities like SC, ST, and OBC from pursuing higher education.
The DTC (Delhi Transport Corporation) requires over 20,000 staff, including drivers and conductors, but most are employed on contracts. Over 8,000 bus marshals have been on strike for over a year, demanding permanent jobs. Instead of addressing these issues, both BJP and AAP use them to score political points, leaving nearly 50,000 individuals struggling for their livelihoods.
Similarly, the MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi) needs over 100,000 employees, including 30,000 sanitation workers. However, Kejriwal has handed these jobs over to contractors, effectively snatching away opportunities from the Valmiki community. The salaries that once allowed their children to become doctors and engineers and secure government jobs have been eliminated. Now, these workers toil under contractors for meager wages of ₹5,000–₹10,000 per month.
In healthcare, Kejriwal mirrors Modi by deceiving Delhi’s citizens with schemes like “Mohalla Clinics” instead of improving government hospitals.
Kejriwal, who claims to run Delhi based on “Ram Rajya” principles, promotes pilgrimages, advocates for religious images on currency notes, and gives pensions to priests and clerics. There is no guarantee he won’t one day declare Delhi a “Hindu state.” Neither Kejriwal nor Modi appears genuinely interested in the welfare of Delhi or the country. In essence, both are cut from the same cloth.
