urgent hearing requested in Boudhgaya Monk’s Hunger strike

In a significant legal development, an application has been filed before the Hon’ble Supreme Court, urging the immediate hearing of a pending writ petition related to the Bodh Gaya Temple. The petitioner, a prominent organization dedicated to protecting the teachings and legacy of Buddha, has raised concerns over the ongoing hunger strike by Buddhist monks, who have been fasting for the past 20 days in support of the issues raised in the petition.

The applicant’s petition highlights the urgent need to address a matter that directly impacts the lives of the monks who are currently on hunger strike. The organization has emphasized that the writ petition, which was admitted nearly 13 years ago, has yet to be heard, and as the situation grows dire, the delay in hearing the case could result in a grave risk to the lives of the fasting monks.

The petition states, “There is a danger to the life of Buddhist monks if this writ petition is kept pending without deciding.” In light of the severe consequences, the applicant has respectfully requested that they be allowed to intervene in the case and that the court prioritize the hearing of this matter to save the lives of the monks.

The applicant’s legal representation stressed the sincerity and genuine nature of the plea, asserting that the application is made in the interest of justice and to safeguard the lives of those involved in the hunger strike.

The prayer before the court is twofold:

  1. To permit the applicant to intervene in the writ petition and ensure that the case is heard immediately.
  2. To pass any other necessary orders to address the critical situation and uphold justice.

The case, which involves the Bodh Gaya Temple, a site of immense religious and cultural significance for Buddhists worldwide, has drawn considerable attention. The monks’ hunger strike serves as a powerful call for action, urging the court to expedite the proceedings and bring an end to the prolonged legal delay.

The applicant has concluded their plea by emphasizing the importance of timely judicial intervention and has expressed gratitude for any assistance the court may provide in ensuring the lives of the monks are safeguarded.

As the matter progresses, all eyes remain on the Hon’ble Court to take swift action and resolve the issue that continues to affect the lives of Buddhist communities and followers around the world.
