High Voltage Drama in Delhi Assembly   2 AAP MLAs suspended  amid CAG Report showdown

Townhall Times : On Tuesday, Delhi Speaker Vijender Gupta expelled 12 AAP legislators, including the Leader of Opposition, Atishi, and prominent party member Gopal Rai, from the assembly for disrupting proceedings by chanting slogans during the Lieutenant Governor’s address.

Among those expelled were Veer Singh Dhingan, Mukesh Ahlawat, Chaudhary Zubair Ahmed, Anil Jha, Vishesh Ravi, and Jarnail Singh, who were all part of the protest. The disruption occurred during the opening day of the Delhi Legislative Assembly session in New Delhi.

Atishi, speaking to reporters, accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of disrespecting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar by removing his portrait from the Chief Minister’s office. She questioned, “Is the BJP suggesting that Narendra Modi can replace Babasaheb Ambedkar?” She further alleged that the BJP had replaced Ambedkar’s portrait with one of Prime Minister Modi, both in the Delhi Secretariat and the assembly.

“Does the BJP think PM Modi is superior to Dr. Ambedkar?” she asked, adding that while BJP members chanted Modi’s name without consequence, AAP members were suspended for voicing support for Ambedkar. Atishi emphasized that this signaled the BJP’s disdain for the revered leader, Dr. Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar.

The controversy coincided with the presentation of 14 reports by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) in the second session of the Delhi Assembly. The BJP-led government, under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, is expected to highlight financial mismanagement during the previous AAP administration.

Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva claimed the CAG reports exposed AAP’s corrupt practices. “We promised the people of Delhi that corruption would be dealt with, and the CAG reports will reveal the truth. Today, when these reports are tabled, Delhi will know about the corruption that has been concealed,” he said.

Delhi minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa also weighed in, saying, “The CAG reports will finally reveal the scams that Arvind Kejriwal and his government have tried to hide for the last three years. There are 14 reports, and one by one, they will be presented to the assembly.”

Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh joined the criticism, noting, “The legacy of the AAP government is a disaster. Its ministers faced imprisonment, and now, the CAG reports will expose the corruption in every ministry.”

The CAG reports are expected to be presented shortly after the Lieutenant Governor’s address to the assembly. Later in the session, lawmakers will discuss the motion of thanks in response to the Governor’s speech. On February 26, the assembly will also hold elections for the Deputy Speaker position.

The clash between the AAP and BJP in the assembly marks the beginning of what is expected to be a tense and eventful session.
