As per the official reports put out by the Election Commission BNP won the most seats which is a decisive voter mandate. The elections which were held in phases and under tight security saw turnouts of large numbers from the capital city of Dhaka to in rural towns. Young voters and first time participants were very much in the picture which showed great public participation in the democratic process.
Party officials declared the result as a “victory of public trust”. They said the next government will focus on economic stability, rising prices, jobs, and better governance. They also mentioned strengthening democratic institutions. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent his “situation congrats” remarking on the “democratic choice” of the people of Bangladesh, the “historical and cultural relations” with Bangladesh, and his hopes of continuing relations in trade, development, and stability in the region. As the government formation starts, the focus turns to the swearing-in, and the new leadership’s policy options. Bangladeshis hope for stability, transparency, and progress.
