NEW DELHI, Feb 16 — It’s a big week for the capital. Starting this Monday, New Delhi has officially stepped onto the global stage as the host of the AI Impact Summit 2026. The venue is the sprawling Bharat Mandapam at Pragati Maidan, which is currently buzzing with international delegates, tech gurus, and policy experts all gathered to figure out where Artificial Intelligence is taking us next. But while the talk inside is all about the future, the reality outside on the streets is a bit more grounded—and a lot more congested.

What’s on the Table? The summit isn’t just another tech conference. It’s a serious deep-dive into how AI is actually going to change our lives. We’re talking about everything from data privacy and new laws to how robots might impact our jobs. The halls are packed with startup founders, researchers, and government officials discussing:

  • Building a “Responsible AI” framework that doesn’t overstep.

  • Strengthening our digital walls against cyber threats.

  • Using AI to fix real-world problems in farming and healthcare.

Day One: The Reality Check The opening sessions today were quite the eye-opener. Most speakers agreed that AI is basically the backbone of the “new economy,” but they didn’t shy away from the risks. Experts pointed out that while AI can do wonders for urban planning or education, we can’t afford to ignore the ethical side of things. Basically, the message was: progress is great, but let’s not lose our privacy in the process.

The Traffic Nightmare If you’re planning to drive through Central Delhi this week, you might want to rethink that. The Delhi Police has been out in full force, and the traffic advisories are no joke.

  • The Gridlock: Areas around ITO, the Supreme Court, and the entire Pragati Maidan stretch saw heavy bumper-to-bumper traffic today.

  • VIP Movement: Because of the high-profile guests, roads are being blocked intermittently. This has been a huge headache for office-goers and students who ended up stuck for way longer than usual.

  • The Advice: The cops are literally begging people to use the Delhi Metro. It’s running fine, and honestly, it’s your best bet to avoid the diversions and one-way restrictions that have been slapped onto several major routes.

Security and What’s Next Security is naturally airtight. There’s extra police everywhere, CCTV at every corner, and the entry points to the venue look like a fortress. With so many international VVIPs in town, the agencies aren’t taking any chances.

Looking ahead, the next few days are going to focus on how the government can help small AI startups and what kind of new skills the youth will need. Expect some big announcements and “handshake deals” before the summit wraps up.

At the end of the day, the AI Impact Summit is a massive win for India’s tech image, but for the average Delhiite just trying to get to work, it’s a bit of a test of patience
