No Yamaraj, No Bulldozer: The Caste Bias of the Yogi Administration Exposed

Abducted Dalit girl from Kapsad, Meerut recovered in Haridwar
Handed over to family without medical exam or statement   an apparent attempt to weaken the case

Townhall Times: According to media reports, the abduction of a Dalit girl from Kapsad village in Sardhana, Meerut, followed by the brutal murder of her mother, has sent shockwaves across the country. The accused reportedly belongs to the Thakur caste, which has further intensified public outrage over caste-based discrimination in the handling of the case.

Amid this, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s earlier statement is being widely recalled, where he had declared that anyone who violates the dignity of women would “meet Yamaraj at the next crossroads.” In this case, however, neither “Yamaraj” nor the much-publicised “bulldozer justice” appears to be anywhere in sight. It raises an uncomfortable question: has the bulldozer broken down, run out of fuel, lost its driver — or has it been deliberately hidden because the accused belongs to the Chief Minister’s own caste?

Following the incident, several social activists and leaders from opposition parties attempted to meet the victim’s family, but the administration repeatedly blocked their access. In a particularly disturbing episode, the police deployed women constables at the front to stop Azad Samaj Party leader Chandrashekhar Azad. The move appeared calculated: any physical contact could later be twisted into allegations against him. Similar restrictions were imposed on leaders from the Bahujan Samaj Party, the Samajwadi Party, and Congress leader Rajendra Pal Gautam, all of whom were prevented from visiting Kapsad.

Rajendra Pal Gautam stated that he had formally written to the Superintendent of Police requesting permission to meet the victim’s family. The Circle Officer had assured him that after a brief wait, they would be escorted. Yet, after more than half an hour, not only was access denied, but the police bluntly declared that they would not allow them to go at all. This reveals a troubling pattern: the police appear powerless against criminals, yet aggressively assert their authority over those demanding justice.

The most alarming development came when it was revealed that the girl and the accused were recovered from Haridwar. While the accused was placed in police custody, the girl was sent back to her family without following standard legal procedures. Raising serious concerns, Advocate Harsh Gautam stated that a victim cannot be sent home without a medical examination and without recording her statement before a magistrate. This, he said, constitutes a grave procedural lapse.

If these steps were indeed skipped, it strongly suggests that the police may be deliberately weakening the case from the very beginning. Without a medical report and a proper judicial statement, how can the prosecution build a strong case? Moreover, this is not merely an abduction case — a murder has also taken place. If the police claim that the girl and the accused knew each other previously, then every legal possibility must be examined, including the full chain of events leading to the mother’s death. Ignoring due process only benefits the accused and damages the pursuit of justice.

Why is the complete legal procedure not being followed in such a serious crime? The answer appears disturbingly clear: instead of strengthening the case, the police and administration seem to be intentionally weakening it. What is unfolding is not just administrative negligence, but a larger legal manipulation — one that reinforces the growing public belief that in today’s system, caste identity can decide who faces the bulldozer and who is quietly protected.
