Yamraj Awaits Criminals at the Next Crossing, The Bulldozer Runs, But Not When the Accused Are Brahmin–Thakur

Today, when Chandrashekhar Azad and other social activists were on their way to meet the victim’s family in Kapsad village, the police administration stopped them midway. At the same time, BJP leader Sangeet Som was allowed to meet the family. However, it is alleged that during the conversation his tone was such that many perceived it as threatening. Based on a video that has gone viral on social media, serious questions are being raised: is the administration and police acting in a one-sided manner? Local residents allege that because the accused belongs to the Thakur caste, the administration is showing leniency. This is why Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s tough statements—“criminals of our sisters and daughters will meet Yamraj at the next crossing, the bulldozer will roll”—appear hollow in this case. Some are also saying that the functioning of the administration reflects a caste-biased mindset.

The incident that occurred around 8 a.m. on January 8, 2026, in Kapsad village under Sardhana police station limits of Meerut has shaken the entire state. Fifty-year-old Dalit woman Sunita Jatav was going to the fields with her 20-year-old daughter. It is alleged that near the canal, Paras Rajput alias Paras Som (22 years), reportedly a compounder at a local doctor’s clinic, stopped them and attempted to molest the daughter. When the mother protested, the accused attacked her on the head with a sharp sugarcane-cutting weapon, killing her on the spot, and forcibly abducted the young woman.

Even two days after the incident, neither has the accused been arrested nor has the girl been safely recovered. The police claim that more than ten teams, led by two SP-rank officers, have been formed and are conducting raids in different districts. Despite this, the result remains zero, raising serious questions about the efficiency and intent of the police machinery.

The situation in the village remains extremely tense. RAF and heavy police forces have been deployed, and entry points to the village have been sealed. The victim’s family had initially refused to perform the last rites until the daughter was recovered and the accused arrested. After prolonged negotiations and pressure, the cremation was finally carried out on the evening of January 9. The administration has announced immediate assistance of ₹10 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and assured an additional ₹12 lakh after the filing of the charge sheet. But the family says money cannot bring back their daughter—they want justice, not compensation.

The case has taken on major political significance. BSP chief Mayawati termed it “extremely tragic and shameful” and raised questions about women’s safety. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Bhim Army and Azad Samaj Party leader Chandrashekhar Azad, SP विधायक Atul Pradhan, and several other leaders have staged protests. The fact that Chandrashekhar Azad was stopped while a BJP leader was allowed to meet the family has further deepened doubts about the administration’s impartiality. Reports have also emerged of clashes between police and protesters at some places, including allegations that a reporter was pushed.

The pain of the victim’s family is the deepest. They say their daughter’s marriage had recently been fixed and now “there is no hope left.” This case is not merely about a murder and abduction—it has become a mirror reflecting the state of law and order, caste-based bias, and the double standards of power. The question remains: will this Dalit family truly receive justice, or will this case too be sacrificed at the altar of administrative indifference and political protection?
