Patna, November 17, 2025 – The Bihar verdict is brutal and one-sided. Nitish Kumar-led NDA has swept back to power with a staggering 180+ seats (out of 243), while Tejashwi Yadav’s Mahagathbandhan (MGB/RJD+Congress+Left+VIP) has been reduced to barely 45-50 seats – its worst performance since 2005. The much-hyped “Lalu 2.0” dream lies in tatters. Here are the most talked-about, ground-level reasons why UPA/MGB got decimated:
- The ₹10,000 Cash Bribe That Backfired Spectacularly
In the final 10 days of campaigning, RJD workers and local leaders were openly distributing ₹10,000 cash packets (mostly in ₹500 notes) to voters, especially in Yadav-Muslim dominated Seemanchal, Kosi, and Mithilanchal belts. Videos went viral on WhatsApp and X showing RJD pramukhs handing out envelopes with Tejashwi’s photo and the message “Ebaar 10 hazaar, baad mein naukri-chaukri”.
Instead of buying votes, it enraged the public. Women voters, especially EBC and Mahadalit communities, felt insulted: “Humko bikau samajhte hain kya?” The narrative quickly turned into “RJD is trying to buy Bihar for just ₹10,000 while Nitish gave us 5 lakh jobs and free electricity.” BJP’s IT cell amplified every video with #10000KiRishwat, trending for 72 hours straight. - Dummy Candidates Strategy: BJP’s Masterstroke
BJP fielded over 80 “dummy” candidates – mostly ex-RJD or ex-JD(U) rebels with identical or similar names to Mahagathbandhan heavyweights. Examples:- Against Tejashwi Yadav in Raghopur: a dummy “Tejashwi Prasad Yadav” (independent)
- Against Tej Pratap in Hasanpur: another “Tej Pratap Yadav”
- In at least 35 Muslim-Yadav seats, dummy candidates with Muslim names split 3-8% votes.
These dummies polled 8,000–25,000 votes each, directly eating into MGB’s core vote and helping NDA win by margins as low as 800-3,000 votes in 28 seats. Election Commission rejected disqualification pleas citing “name coincidence”.
- Jungle Raj 2.0 Fear Returns with a Vengeance
Post-2024 Lok Sabha loss, Tejashwi tried to rebrand as “young, job-creating leader”, but a series of high-profile crimes – kidnapping of a Patna businessman for ₹60 crore ransom, daylight murder in Siwan, and rape cases in Gopalganj – were linked to RJD musclemen. Nitish hammered the “Jungle Raj is back” narrative in every rally. Women voters, who had shifted to Tejashwi in 2020, swung back decisively to Nitish-BJP. - Complete Collapse of MY (Muslim-Yadav) Math
Muslims (17%) and Yadavs (14%) together couldn’t deliver 31% because:- AIMIM and ASP (Kosi-Seemanchal factor) cut 4-9% Muslim votes in 25 seats.
- Pasmanda Muslims openly revolted against “Yadav domination”.
- Extremely Backward Classes (EBCs – 32% of population) consolidated behind Nitish-Modi; Kushwaha, Dhanuk, Nonia voters gave NDA 70%+ votes.
- Modi’s Guarantee vs Tejashwi’s “Guarantee” Fatigue
Modi addressed 22 rallies and promised:- Bihar as “Vikasit Rajya” by 2047
- 50 lakh more jobs in next 5 years
- ₹2,100 monthly to every woman (extension of PM-KISAN style)
Tejashwi’s repeat of 2020 promise (“10 lakh jobs first cabinet”) was mocked as “failed guarantee”. People asked: “Pichle 5 saal mein kahan gaye 10 lakh jobs?”
- Pappu Yadav Factor & VIP Rebellion
Mukesh Sahani’s VIP (Nishad vote bank) walked out of MGB just 20 days before polling and joined NDA, delivering 12 Mallah-dominated seats. Pappu Yadav contested 15 seats independently and cut 15,000–30,000 votes each from RJD, ensuring NDA victory in Saharsa, Madhepura, and Khagaria regions. - Upper Caste + Mahadalit + EBC + Women = Unbreakable NDA Vote Bank
- Upper castes: 85% to NDA
- Mahadalits: 78% (thanks to Nitish’s social engineering)
- EBCs: 72%
- Women: 68% (liquor ban + Jeevika + cycle scheme loyalty to Nitish)
MGB ended up with just Yadav + 60% Muslim votes – not enough in first-past-the-post.
- Overconfidence and No Ground Cadre
Tejashwi’s team believed their own surveys showing 140+ seats. Booth-level workers were missing in 60% of rural areas. In contrast, BJP-RSS ran a door-to-door campaign with 3 lakh workers for 90 days.
The message from Bihar 2025 is clear: money can’t buy trust, muscle can’t replace governance, and dummy candidates plus social engineering can bury even the strongest caste arithmetic.Nitish Kumar is set to take oath for a record 9th time. For Tejashwi Yadav and the Congress-Left alliance, it’s back to the drawing board – and a very long winter ahead.
