The brutal murder of JDU leader Dular Chand in Mokama has shaken the atmosphere of the Bihar elections. The incident has not only raised serious questions about the state’s law and order situation but has also triggered political shockwaves across the country.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav launched a fierce attack on the ruling alliance, saying, “The BJP and JDU must themselves decide whether Bihar is living under Jungle Raj or Mangal Raj.” Yadav said this was not just the killing of one man but the murder of democracy itself. He added that Bihar, which is often projected as a model of good governance, has today become a land where goonda raj—the rule of hooligans—prevails.
Akhilesh Yadav accused the BJP-JDU government of turning law and order into a mere election slogan, while criminals roam freely and the police remain silent spectators. “If even political candidates and party workers are not safe during elections, how can the common people feel secure?” he asked. “This is a system where criminals thrive under political protection while the administration merely issues statements.”
The Samajwadi Party leader also targeted the Election Commission, alleging that its silence after such a gruesome incident proves its bias toward the BJP and the NDA. “The Election Commission’s responsibility is not just to conduct polls but to ensure a fair and secure environment. Its silence today shows it stands with the ruling party,” Yadav said.
Opposition parties further alleged that elections in Bihar are no longer democratic but have turned into a game of administrative manipulation. Leaders of the RJD and Congress also described the killing as an attack on democracy and declared that the Nitish Kumar government has completely failed to maintain law and order.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, however, defended his government, claiming that law and order in the state remains strong and that the culprits will be punished. But the opposition dismissed this as a mere formality. Public fear is on the rise, and social media is flooded with angry reactions calling the situation a return of goonda raj. Many citizens are asking, “If politicians themselves are not safe, what hope does the common man have?”
Political analysts believe that the Mokama killing will have a deep impact on the ongoing Bihar elections. It has reignited the debate over the collapse of democratic institutions and the growing nexus between crime and power.
Akhilesh Yadav’s statement has now become the focal point of Bihar’s political debate, as he has not only attacked the ruling alliance but also questioned the neutrality of the Election Commission. “The BJP must answer whether this is Mangal Raj or Jungle Raj,” he said. “Because when blood flows in the middle of democracy and institutions remain silent, it is no longer democracy it is goonda raj.”
The people of Bihar now wait for an answer to this question and that answer may well define the future of democracy in the state.
