Haryana Police Suicide Scandal Echoes the Vyapam Killings in Madhya Pradesh

After IPS Puran’s suicide, ASI Sandeep Lathar also ends his life  In his suicide note, he calls DGP Shatrujit Kapoor “innocent”
Townhall Times | Haryana  A wave of shock has swept through the Haryana Police department after the death of IPS officer V.Y. Puran Kumar. Just days after his suicide, another officer — ASI Sandeep Lathar, posted at the Cyber Cell of the Rohtak IG Office — shot himself dead.

Before taking the extreme step, ASI Lathar left behind a five-page suicide note and a video message. In his note, he made serious allegations against IPS Puran Kumar while describing DGP Shatrujit Kapoor as an honest officer. He also claimed that Puran’s suicide was driven by “fear of arrest” and demanded a fair investigation into what he called a “corrupt family network,” urging that “no one be spared.”

However, the circumstances raise several questions. When the government and the police administration are already taking visible action against officers named by IPS Puran in his suicide note, what exactly was Sandeep afraid of? Why did he feel compelled to end his life and leave such a statement? His suicide note reads more like a declaration than a farewell.

In one part of the note, Sandeep wrote:

“I am Sandeep Kumar, son of Dayanand, resident of Julana village, Jind district. I have always stood for truth. My grandfather and great-uncle both served in the Indian Army and fought for the nation. Patriotism runs in my blood. For me, nothing is greater than my country and society.”

If someone believes the country is supreme, why would he choose suicide over fighting its enemies? Sandeep must have known the truth behind the corruption network — whether Puran Kumar was being framed, or others were involved. Merely declaring DGP Kapoor innocent and then taking his own life seems strange. It raises suspicions that both Puran and Sandeep may have been aware of something explosive within the Haryana Police — a major cover-up or conspiracy — similar to the infamous Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh.

Sandeep might have been silenced for reasons different from Puran’s caste-based harassment, but both deaths appear to be linked by something deeper. His suicide has only strengthened the suspicion that there is a major scandal hidden within the department. If the investigation proceeds honestly, more such deaths may follow — and that would not be surprising.

Sandeep’s death has now opened a floodgate of questions that the state machinery seems eager to suppress. Both suicides must be investigated with complete transparency and integrity — before Haryana witnesses another Vyapam-like tragedy.
