Townhall Times In a shocking and deeply unjust move, Ambedkar University Delhi suspended students who stood in solidarity with a female student who was brutally harassed and ragged by members affiliated with right-wing groups.
The survivor, after enduring continuous mental harassment, was pushed to the edge and reportedly attempted to take her own life. Instead of taking disciplinary action against the accused perpetrators, the university chose to suspend the students who came forward in support of the victim — punishing them with a two-semester suspension.
This decision not only silences student voices but also endangers the academic future of those who chose to stand up against injustice. It raises serious questions about the university’s priorities and its failure to ensure a safe and accountable campus environment.
After numerous prayers, petitions, and repeated appeals, the Ambedkar University administration refused to listen. Left with no other option, the suspended students finally approached the Delhi High Court in their pursuit of justice.
Updates from the 2nd Hearing On March 5th, three SFI activists—Anan, Nadia, and Harsh—were served suspension notices for standing up against the bullying and harassment of a second-year BA Global Studies student. The suspension was carried out illegally, without serving a show-cause notice or giving the students a chance to defend themselves. SFI has approached the Delhi High Court to contest the suspension of Comrades Anan, Harsh, and Nadia.
Today, marked the second hearing of our case, where the Honourable judge took the matter seriously, emphasizing that the delay in revoking the suspension is jeopardizing the students’ academic future.
To which the university argued that it is looking into the appeal of the suspended students and considering their request. We want to call out the two-faced nature of the administration since when they meet us in a meeting they argued that since the matter is sub judice we can’t take any action on it. On the other hand, in the courtroom the university is delaying the case by arguing that they are considering our request.
No more hiding under the carpet of diplomacy will be tolerated. It has been 34 days since our comrades has been suspended. Even if the matter is sub-judice there is nothing which stops the administration to revoke the suspension as now they themselves have argued in the court that they will be considering the request of students.
The Honourable judge has pressed on the university administration to take action on students request immediately. We want no more delay-delaying on the matter and the suspension needs to be revoked immediately.
The Honourable Judge has listed the matter for further hearing on 15th April 2025. We take a firm stance against the administration, as this is a clear case of political targeting of student activists. SFI will take the fight from the courtroom to the lawns of AUD to demand justice for the suspended students. We continue with our indefinite-sit in.
