Delhi Assembly Session Begins with Disrespect to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Speaker’s aggressive  behavior

Governance started with theatrics of Yamuna cleaning, water cuts, and power cuts.

Townhall Times  The session started with theatrics of Yamuna cleaning, water cuts, and power cuts, marking the beginning of the Delhi government’s actions. After winning the Delhi elections, the BJP government has started showing its true face, beginning with the removal of the photos of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh from the Delhi Assembly and Chief Minister’s office. This action was criticized by opposition leader Atishi, who raised the issue in the Assembly, stating that the BJP’s real anti-Dalit face has been revealed by removing Baba Saheb’s picture from the House. She pointed out that this act proves their anti-Dalit stance.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), while opposing BJP’s policies, has since day one demanded that the BJP fulfill its promises, especially depositing Rs. 2500 into women’s accounts by March 8. However, Speaker Vijender Gupta failed to fulfill his moral and constitutional duties. In an aggressive and anarchic manner, he stated that the mics of all BJP members should be turned on so that they can oppose all the sharp questions raised by the opposition or create chaos, preventing the proceedings of the House.

Before the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, Home Minister Amit Shah raised the issue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s statement in Parliament, which was not only brought up by Congress but also by AAP. AAP termed it as disrespect to Baba Saheb and made it an electoral issue. This issue has become a political front for all three major political parties in Delhi — AAP, Congress, and BJP.

The election discourse regarding the legacy of Ambedkar is expected to intensify, especially in the 12 seats reserved for Scheduled Castes. The Dalit vote on these seats could prove to be decisive. This is a challenge for the BJP, as it has been in power in Delhi for the past 26 years. However, this time, the party will have to work hard to maintain its grip. The Dalit vote bank, which was once a traditional base for Congress, has now completely shifted towards AAP.

It is crucial to understand that the Dalit community plays a significant role in Delhi. Out of the 70 total assembly seats in Delhi, 12 seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes, and the Dalit population here constitutes 16.7%. However, Dalit voters play an important role in all the seats of Delhi.

In this context, Harsh Gautam from the New Democratic Party of India stated, “This is the real face of the BJP. They may talk about the Constitution, democracy, and Dalits, but the truth is their real face is different. They want to spread discrimination in the society and are enemies of Dalits and Adivasis. Whenever their highest leader, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, places the Constitution on his forehead, it signifies that the Constitution is in danger.”

However, it should be noted that even AAP and Arvind Kejriwal’s political journey began with anti-Dalit activities. Their primary stance was against reservations. Later, they came to power under the pretext of fighting corruption, but despite that, they have always been opposed to Dalits and, in a way, are allies of the BJP. There is a misconception among people that BJP and AAP are different; Harsh Gautam concluded.
